For one, most 12-inch LPs play at 33 1/3 rpm. Yep, it’s that simple! It’s worth noting that fans playing the record at a different speed is a bit of an unforced error on Swift’s part. It should be marked with the numbers 33 and 45 (and maybe even 78, but don’t worry about that one). (1) Find the speed switch on your turntable. Here’s how to play your Red (Taylor’s Version) vinyl records properly. If you’re a Swiftie who still doesn’t know what that means, we at Vulture are here to help. And a third notes that “the sound is really scary it’s like Taylor’s voice from beyond the grave … is this a disgusting joke about Halloween? Not sure.” Nope! As other fans in those Target reviews, along with those on Twitter and TikTok, have pointed out, Swift pressed the records at 45 rotations per minute, so it sounds slowed down when played at 33 1/3 rpm, the typical speed on a turntable. Just take a peek at the one-star reviews of the Target exclusive: “Why is there a man singing every track?!?” reads one. Over the past few days, as Swifties have gotten their $49.99 four-disc vinyl sets of Red (Taylor’s Version), there has been a bit of confusion over the sound of the records. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled & written upon. When Taylor Swift said she’d be the man, she didn’t mean it quite like that. LP cover barely keeps the record inside it. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams & heavily marred by wear & writing. Tape, writing, ring wear & other defects may be present.įAIR (F) OR POOR (P): Cracked, badly warped, won't play through without skipping or repeating. Cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. GOOD PLUS (G+) OR GOOD (G): Good does not mean bad, record can play through without skipping, with significant surface noise, scratches & visible groove wear. There may be some writing on the cover, will look aged and more yellowish, but still decent. There will be some ring wear, where the ink has begun to wear off. Cover looks worn, used, may be some seam splitting. Will appear to have been played but still have some luster. VERY GOOD (VG): Record may not really look very good, but it will still play very good, probably with some surface noise, but the dynamics should still be excellent, overpowering the surface noise. Corners can be slightly dog earred, but not defacing the artwork - should have no more than 3 flaws mentioned. Minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears. Flat white paper may be somewhat yellow, but no stains or mildew from water damage. The back of the cover usually gives away the age. The cover is clean, but may have small writing on it, artwork looks clean with slight aging. VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): Record shows wear, surface scuffs, the vinyl still has a great luster, but the flaws will be noticeable, but don't cause any surface noise. No seam splits, writing on the cover or taped repairs. The corners can show white, or some slight wear. Artwork on cover is pretty close to perfect, may have a slight impression & minor outer ring wear, but no ink wear! Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled. There may be more than a few scuffs, but NO Scratches. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) might be present, however the artwork is pretty close to perfect.ĮXCELLENT (EX): May have minor scuffs which are only slightly visible. The cover looks close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and/or age. It should play without any noise over the flaw, which is hard to see. NEAR MINT (NM): This record appears virtually flawless, maybe a very minor scuff and very little else can appear on the vinyl. The age of the record has nothing to do with it. MINT (M): Absolutely perfect in every way, never been played & possibly still sealed.
